Saint Seiya ialah anime dan manga karya Masami Kurumada. Anime Saint Seiya diproduksi oleh Toei Animation dan pertama kali disiarkan di TV Asahi, Jepang pada tanggal 11 Oktober 1986. Anime Saint Seiya disiarkan di Indonesia oleh stasiun televisi TVRI Yogyakarta pada tahun 1987 hingga 1990 dam TVRI Pusat Jakarta pada tahun 1988 sampai 1991 RCTI pada tahun 1991, dan manganya masuk ke Indonesia melalui Rajawali Grafiti.

Anime ini disiarkan di Amerika Utara di Cartoon Network dan telah disunting untuk televisi dengan judul Knights of the Zodiac. Anime ini juga sukses negara lain. Di Brazil, Saint Seiya (dimana diganti dengan judul Os Cavaleiros do Zodíaco) pertama kali mengudara pada tahun 1994 dan telah mengubah pandangan animasi di Brazil. Hal ini juga terjadi di negara Amerika Latin yang lain, terutama Meksiko dan Argentina.

Saint Seiya makin dikenal di dunia barat dengan judul Knight of the Zodiac setelah cukup sukses di Perancis (di perancis dengan judul Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque). Di Spanyol dan negara-negara berbahasa Spanyol, Saint Seiya dikenal sebagai Los Caballeros del Zodiaco, dan di Italia dikenal sebagai I Cavalieri dello Zodiaco. Bisa dikatakan, Saint Seiya memiliki kontribusi tersendiri dalam pengembangan budaya manga dan anime Jepang.

Manga ini bercerita tentang lima pendekar yang diberi julukan "Saint" dan memiliki kekuatan berdasar pada jubahnya. Mereka diberi tugas untuk melindungi Saori Kido, reinkarnasi dari Dewi Athena (Dewi perang dan kebijakan). Saori dulunya berada di Sanctuary, tempat para Saint yang mengabdi pada Athena. Tetapi, salah satu Saint berkhianat dan memperdaya Saint lain untuk membunuh Saori bayi.

Saint Sagitarius yang menyadari kekeliruan berusaha menyelamatkan Saori. Ketika Sagitarius hampir tewas, dia menitipkan bayi Saori pada seorang konglomerat dan memintanya untuk membesarkan Saori. Setelah dewasa, Saori lalu mengumpulkan Saint-Saint yang dijadikan pelindungnya. Mereka bersumpah setia dibawah perintah Saori. Mereka lalu pergi ke Sanctuary untuk menggulingkan kekuasaan sesat Saint Gemini.
